Mark Flekken, are you André Onana in disguise?

Bayer Leverkusen 2-7 Paris Saint-Germain

Goals: Pacho, Doué, Kvaratskhelia, Doué, Mendes, Dembelé, Vitinha (PSG), Garcia, Garcia (BL)

At 4-1 down, Bayer Leverkusen were already toast when Mark Flekken played his part in his side's worst defeat since a 6-0 mauling by Schwarz-Weiss Essen in 1954.

Pillaged by the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal and Sunderland in last summer's transfer window, Leverkusen were unable to deal with the Champions League winners last night.

And Flekken could have avoided the obliteration had he kept out two savable efforts from Nuno Mendes and Ousmane Dembelé in the second period.

To talk about clangers would be a bit stretched though.

But his performance last night raised some red flags.

While Nuno Mendes' effort flashed close to his arm, Ballon d'Or winner Dembelé's harmless attempt at the far-past went through his legs.

In two seasons at Brentford he conceded four goals in a game on four occasions.

But never did he pick the ball out of the net a staggering SEVEN times.

By his own standards that was a display unworthy of the Champions League.

Yet it has to be said that he was let down the garden path by his defenders.

Although he could have come for Nuno Mendes' cross to at least narrow the angle for Pacho's opener seven minutes in, there was nothing he could have done to keep out Désiré Doué's pair of goals and Kvicha Kvaratskhelia's strike. Or Vitinha's last-gasp belter.

Minutes after Robert Andrich was sent off for striking him in the face with his elbow, Doué scored an impressive quick-fire brace before half-time.

Teed up by the Georgian winger, he controlled the ball with his right foot before unleashing hard and low into the far-corner with his left.

And the ex-Bees goalkeeper was also powerless when the young Frenchman curled home his second.

In between Kvaratakhelia found the net when his effort cannoned in off both posts.

Leverkusen had no answers to PSG's questions and have Alex Garcia to thank for the damage limitation, with the Spaniard converting a penalty and scoring a belter either side of half-time.

The last time the Germans were hit by seven was in 2012 when Lionel Messi put five past Bernd Leno, André Schürrle and company in a 7-1 trashing.

If scoring is the hardest thing to do in football, Flekken and his teammates made this exercise look like a teddy bear's picnic for the French tonight.

And if Onana happened to watch the game in Turkey, he will have felt a lot better about his underwhelming Manchester United career.

While Brentford have long moved on with the signing of Kelleher, the man who kicked off their big-name exile last summer will need a top-class showing against his former club Freiburg on Saturday to shake off a grim day at the office.
