Premier League
Brentford (1) 2 Ouatarra 40, 88
Crystal Palace (1) 2 Sarr pen 6, Wharton 52
Adam Wharton bagged his first goal for the Eagles, but a double from Dango Ouatarra rescued a point for Brentford's European ambitions.
The Eagles confounded expectations by showing a greater energy and desire than the hosts for most of the game - that in spite of the fact the Bees theoretically had the added motivation of needing points in their bid to qualify for next season's overseas adventures.
The Eagles may have little to play for in these final games ahead of the Conference final in Leipzig, which is only 10 days away, but they did not show signs of indifference - twice taking the lead and asking most of the questions until the subdued Bees managed to rouse themselves for a final flourish.
The Eagles looked like they meant business from the off and immediately won a penalty that Ismailia Sarr put away after being tripped by Caoimhin Kellher. Paul Howard on VAR called it after ref Sam Barrott had initially seen it as no more than a benign collision between the striker and the keeper.
The mustard-coloured Eagles looked in the mood for more. Daniel Munoz forced a save following a slick move. Jorgen Strand Larsen and Sarr both struck a post during spells of dominance.
The Bees were very much second best but got a huge slice of luck to draw level before the break - an attempt by Jaydee Canvot to head clear a cross whipped in by Yahor Yarmoliuk flew straight into the onrushing Dango Ouatarra and rebounded into the net.
The Eagles deservedly regained the lead at the start of the second half with that Wharton strike from just outside the area. Teed up by Munoz, the midfielder's low hit went under Kelleher, who should have done better.
Keith Andrews shuffled the pack, with Kevin Schade and Jordan Henderson coming on to try and wrestle some control and, as they have often done this season, the Bees managed to ratchet up the gears to claw their way back into it.
A long throw-in was flicked on by Sepp van den Berg and Ouatarra, lurking at the far post, bundled in his second goal of the afternoon.
With the Bees now scenting blood, they almost secured a great win - Igor Thiago skying over after Mikel Damsgaard ghosted to the byline onto Keane Lewis-Potter's pass.
It was not the win Brentford were after, but with Brighton losing at Leeds, they are still in the hunt for seventh place with a final game at Liverpool to come - and eighth spot which they currently occupy may yet be enough to sneak into the Conference League.
