James can become a Chelsea legend, says happy Potter

The plus points were plentiful after such an impressive victory.

Chelsea finally flexed their muscles at the third time of asking in this seasons Champions League with a dominant 3-0 win against a modest AC Milan side.

And arguably the crowning moment was when England defender Reece James powered into the box to smash home the third. It was a goal totally in keeping with a swashbuckling performance from the right wing-back, who was full of power, pace and purpose at both ends of the pitch.

He managed to subdue the one Milan player who posed a semblance of a threat - Rafael Leao - and then had the ambition to venture forward and pose a threat to the Italians' defence.

"I think that Reece is just a fantastic player," Potter said. "He's a young player, so he's developing all the time and he'll get better and better as we go. I've really enjoyed working with him. He's got a lot to offer.

"He could play in any game in the world, he's just tremendous. My job is to try and help him reach his potential. I haven't watched him enough to say [if he's the best in his position right now] but all I know is that for us, we love him. He's so important for us and he could be a Chelsea - that's the level that he has, the potential that he has.

"For that to happen, he has to be part of a successful team and that's what we are working towards."

The only downside on a happy night was an injury to Wesley Fofana, who bagged his first goal for the Blues in opening the scoring on the night. He went off with a knee injury before the first half was over.

"That's the one disappointing thing about the evening," Potter said. "He'll have a scan tomorrow (Thursday) and fingers crossed. We are concerned. We just need to wait and hope for the best."
