Frank not too bothered about home/away disparity after Bees sting Magpies at fortress Gtech

Thomas Frank says he is "not too concerned" about his Brentford side's away form ahead of their visit to Chelsea for a big west London derby on Sunday.

The Bees swatted aside Newcastle United on Saturday with a display of fine, flowing football and clinical finishing - winning 4-2 despite the visitors twice fighting back from a goal down.

That's now seven wins and one draw - against West Ham - in the league at the Gtech Community Stadium for Frank's side, contrasting starkly with an almost symmetrical away record - six defeats and one draw on the road.

But the growing trend comes with a caveat. Five of those away defeats came at Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City, Spurs and Aston Villa - all teams which may be expected to finish above Brentford in the league table.

But Frank told the post-match press conference yesterday that, apart from his side's uncharacteristically lacklustre performance in the 2-1 defeat at Craven Cottage to Fulham early last month, he is relatively satisfied with the Bees' performances on the road - if not the results.

Frank said: "There is always a bit of coincidence in this (results away verses results at home) but the home form is super, super impressive how we play here. We are very good at pressing and play with such confidence. Away overall we have had good performances except Fulham.

"Overall I think (the performance) at Villa was better than the result looked (a 3-1 loss). I think it was 14 minutes where we lost it in - and to an unbelievably clinical Villa team.

"We need to get more results away from home. The away form we need to improve, but honestly I am not too concerned. I think we have been hard done by in some of the (away) games and I think we just need to continue to improve.

"The amount of goals that Brentford have scored in the league, I don't think anyone understands how crazy good that is and that is down to our recruitment team for getting good players in, for players to develop and then all the coaching that is put into this to try to produce so many goals and chances."

Bryan Mbuemo gave Brentford the lead yesterday, a fine cut inside from the right and arrowing finish into the top right-hand corner.

The Magpies hit back through Alexander Isak - and did so again thanks to Harvey Barnes after Yoane Wissa had temporarily restored the Bees' lead with another fine top-corner finish.

But Brentford were not to be denied, adding two more goals in the second half - one from Nathan Collins and a 90th-minute clincher from Kevin Schade, set up by the brilliant Mbuemo.

Frank added: "It was a very good win, in many ways. We have had a three-game week. It is the same for everyone, no complaints about that but it is always more difficult to go again for the third game and wit a short turnaround.

"The character and the intensity we played with throughout the game was very impressive. We played very well first half. I was a little bit disappointed with the two goals we conceded but I think  we played even better second half."
