Julien Stephan says QPR need to show 'greater efficiency' to avoid deflating defeats like the one in the derby against Millwall.

Rangers had plenty of the ball but did not turn it into enough big chances - having only three shots on target all game. By contrast, the Lions pounced when they got their chances and then defended resolutely to hold on.

"We had some big chances in the first 20-25 minutes and today, if I have to sum up the game, it's very simple : It's a question of efficiency.

"We shots 20 times. We touched 46 times the ball in the box and they {Millwall] shoot only five times , two goals. Collectively, we did a very good game, with good moves. We were dominant on the pitch but in the end, when you have big chances, you have to score.

"When they are two goals ahead, it's more difficult, though we had enough to score three or four goals today. I think today was our best game since the start of the season - with more chances and situations created. The performance was good, but of course the most important thing is the result and we are disappointed.

"But it's done now, we have to focus on the next one against Swansea."

Rangers looked sharper when Koki Saito came on, but Stephan had no regrets about not starting the Japanese winger because of his midweek travels on international duty.

"He came back to us very late," the QPR boss said. "He trained only yesterday - a small session after a long, long travel and we have three games in a week, so we have to manage the situation. So no regrets.

"He played well when there were more spaces at the end of the game. He succeeded to find some good moves with a very good assist for the goal but [Paul] Smythy also did well the first 60 minutes. You have to manage the situation when players travel 10 or 12 hours. We are only in October and we want to keep the players on the pitch until the end of the season.

"We need to stay smart in how we manage the situation because you can have big injuries after an international break."

Millwall boss Alex Neil said: “I don’t think we played particularly well, if I’m being honest.

“What we did have is that we carried a threat, particularly in the first half. But we didn’t control the ball and the game as well as we know we can.

“However, we came to the form team – QPR have been good, are a threat and have got goals in them – and the most important thing for us is that we win the game.

“There have been games where we’ve played well and ended up not getting points. So, from our perspective, we’d much rather win.

“What I do know about us is that when we take the lead we’re a gritty team and we defend well.”
