How they rated: Spurs' FA Cup players given the Capital Football once over

Tottenham somehow found a way to get through to the fifth round of the FA Cup - getting the better of Southampton 3-2 in Wednesday night's thrilling replay after a late comeback.

Here we look at the men who made it happen.

Hugo Lloris: 7 Was tested a couple of times in the first ten minutes by both Danny Ings and Nathan Redmond, with Tottenham appearing rather fragile at the back. However he could only push Redmonds’ drive into the path of Shane Long for Southampton’s leveller in 33 minutes. Top class save to turn Janniik Vestergaard’s header over the bar with Spurs under pressure.

Serge Aurier: 6 Should have gone for goal on the stroke of half time on the counter attack, but seemed to lack the confidence to do so. Quite the personification of the hosts’ struggles over the evening.

Toby Alderweireld: 5 Looked shaky at the back alongside Jan Vertonghen, offering the positive visitors far too much room in dangerous areas.

Jan Vertonghen: 5 Possibly still finding his way back to fitness after missing the recent win over Manchester City. Did appear short on confidence and sharpness and was no surprise to see him replaced by Gedson Fernandes.

Japhet Tanganga: 5 Another anonymous figure in a stuttering, unshielded Tottenham midfield. Allowed Ings too much room inside the Lilywhites’ penalty area to net Saints’ second. Boss Jose Mourinho unlikely to be impressed looking ahead after this performance.

Harry Winks: 6 Off the pace for long periods and passing lacked accuracy. Failed to close down many Southampton breaks, orchestrated by Redmond although improved as the game wore on.

Eric Dier: 5 Appeared a bit laboured in the first half and another who found Redmond hard to contain. The partnership with Winks didn’t convince at all.

Tanguy Ndombele: 6 His 12th minute shot resulted in an own goal by Saints’ Jack Stephens for the opener to settle the hosts early nerves. It came at a time when the visitors had already looked lively.

Heung-Min Son: 7 Busy trying to link up with Moura with Spurs struggling to build on their early lead. Well policed on occasion by Stephens. Not at his most fluid – but kept cool to drill home the 87th minute spot kick to get his side out of jail.

Lucas Moura: 7 An impressive first half engine, having been shoehorned into the central striking role by Mourinho. Set up perfectly by Son only to direct a six yard header wide in 53 minutes. Atoned by driving home to make it 2-2 when the game looked like running away from the north Londoners.

Ryan Sessegnon: 5 Caught cold by Sofiane Boufal on the right as Southampton chased an equaliser, before Ings lashed the ball off the bar. Gave Ings far too much room in the penalty area with Saints on top at the start of the second half.

Subs:

Davinson Sanchez: 3 Came on in dying minutes for Sessegnon to shore up the slender advantage.

Dele Alli: 6 Mourinho, sensing that Spurs needed momentum and drive, sent on the talisman for Ndombele on the hour. Supplied the pass to Son which led to the late, successful, penalty.

Gedson Fernandes: 6 Came on for a disilliusioned-looking Vertonghen a few minutes into the second half. Brought some extra energy to the hosts.
