Pellegrini: We didn't give up

West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini praised his players for ‘not giving up’ as they came from 3-1 behind to beat the Premier League’s basement club Huddersfield at the London Stadium.

Pellegrini admitted his players had not played well for the majority of the game, but praised the spirit which saw them turn the game round in the final 15 minutes.

He picked out playmaker Samir Nasri and two-goal hero Javier Hernnadez when speaking after the 4-3 win this afternoon.

Pellegrini said: “The most important thing is not to give up. In football it is always possible (to come back) because it takes just one second (to score a goal).

“When Samir Nasri came on, he is more of an attacking playmaker but we played very bad in most of the game, conceding two goals from set pieces knowing that that is the strongest threat they have in attack.

“After that the complete team improved - the playmakers, defenders and attackers, and we changed the score.

“Victories are very good for the fans, especially when you are losing 3-1 and you don’t give up. Good for the fans, the players, for me, for everyone.”

Pellegrini also pointed out the importance of Hernandez to the Hammers, saying: “Javier has had a special season because he arrived from the World Cup with less holiday than the rest of the players.

“After that he had a long illness, then in the games he started we have scored three goals. Then he got injured again but now he is returning again like he did today.”
