Vieira sings praises of two-goal debut hero Odsonne Edouard as Palace ease past sorry Spurs

Patrick Vieira heaped praise on two-goal hero Odsonne Edouard after his brace sealed Crystal Palace’s 3-0 win over Spurs on Saturday.
Edouard, a summer signing from Celtic, adapted immediately to the English game by scoring within 30 seconds of coming off the bench – and added a second late on at Selhurst Park.
Speaking after the win the former Arsenal midfield general said: “I think it's a dream start for him. He came on and was among space which allowed him to score those two goals.
“For him to come on and score those two goals is really good for him. It will give him the belief and more confidence to do well for the team. I'm really happy for him because it will help the team in the future.
“But we have to give credit to Christian Benteke who worked really hard in the first 70 minutes and then when Edouard came on he just finished the job and took his chances well.
“We are a team, though, and again I will mention Christian because of his work ethic.
“When Edouard came on he had more space in the line and more time in the box and that allowed him to score those two goals.
“I don't want to take away from those two chances that he took because he did really well, but I want to give Christian credit as well because of the way he worked in the first 70 minutes.”
Vieira also praised his team for keeping their composure as the game heated up in the second half – particularly after one altercation between Wilfried Zaha and Japhet Tanganga, which saw both booked – then the Tottenham man dismissed shortly afterwards following a second yellow.
Vieira added: “I think we wanted to improve that side of our game, how can we compete being calm and composed. We learn a lot and there's still more to come from this team.
“Today we competed well with calm and concentration on the details, winning the game. I was really pleased about the way we defended as a team. We didn't give them a lot of space to create chances, we compete in all our duels and if you want to win games this is something that has to be consistent in your performance.”
Spurs boss Nuno Espirito Santo admitted his team’s lacklustre performance was a “concern” but said: “In the first half I think we were in control of the game, didn't create too much but didn't allow too much also.
“But losing a player and all these things, I think we overcame that and at half-time we spoke and the perspective was to improve in the second half, but it didn't happen.
“Even in the beginning before the penalty, one man down, we showed resilience, we were strong, and then the penalty came.
“But a lot of situations we have to look at and be fair to say that we didn't perform as well as we should. It is a big concern, we had enough quality and talent to play better.
“We didn't do it, credit to Palace they were aggressive and they didn't allow too much time on the ball.
“We lost duels, many, many situations that I think we should do much better. In terms of offensive, much improvement is required.”
