Tottenham Hotspur ended a run of six home games in the Premier League without a win when they defeated Brentford 2-0 in N17 this afternoon.

It comes on the back of a gutsy 2-2 draw at Newcastle United in midweek - when skipper Christian Romero scored twice and saved the day with a last minute overhead kick. This time, the plaudits went to Richarlison and Xavi Simons, who both scored in the first half.

It was Simons' first goal for the club and brought boss Thomas Frank much-needed relief after failing to oversee a home win since the opening weekend win over Burnley. He was also keen to ensure he got one over his old club.

For the Bees, it was their second loss in North London in a matter of days as they also fell 2-0 at Arsenal on Wednesday.

Chelsea remain in the the top four but had to settle for a point in a drab 0-0 draw at Bournemouth. They are eight points behind leaders Arsenal, whose lead at the top over Manchester City was cut to two points after their last-gasp 2-1 defeat at Aston Villa.

Fulham entertain Crystal Palace tomorrow while West Ham travel to Brighton.

It was a good day in the Championship for Millwall, QPR and Watford, who all won to enhance their season's ambitions, but there was tragedy at Charlton.

Mihailo Ivanovic's strike just before the hour mark was enough to get the Lions over the line in a tight affair at Bristol City - where the 1-0 win was overshadowed by a mass brawl involving both managers at the end of the game after City had a goal disallowed for offside. Millwall are third, just two points behind Middlesbrough and nine behind leaders Coventry City.

QPR overcame West Brom 3-1, with Rumarn Burrell continuing his fine recent scoring form with two goals in the second half to add to a Jonathan Varane goal just before the break. Rangers are now 10th - only two points adrift of the promotion slots.

Watford are 13th after beating Norwich City 3-2, thanks to a late winner from Tom Ince and a double from Luca Kjerrumgaard. The Hornets had trailed 2-1 at half-time but the fightback was capped by a first goal from Ince for 13 months.

It was a very sad afternoon at the Valley, where a spectator died - with the medical emergency leading to the abandonment of Charlton's game with Portsmouth. The incident at the lower tier of the covered end stopped the game in the 12th minute and an hour later, a decision was made to call off the game.

In the FA Cup second round, National League Wealdstone found it too tough at League Two Grimsby, losing 4-0, while Sutton United lost 2-1 to Shrewsbury Town in a dramatic tie at the VBS Community Stadium which saw three players sent off.

Kai Jennings thought his 69th goal had won it for the Ambers, especially after Josh Ruffels was send off ten minutes later for a second yellow. But Ismeal Kabia netted a 9st minute equaliser to send the game into extra time and David Ogbonna also picked up a second booking just before the end of normal time to even up the numbers.

Heartache followed for the club with a giant-killing tradition, as John Marquis put the League Two strugglers ahead and Sutton's Junior Eccleston received a straight red nine minutes from time.
