‘No excuses’ for defeat says Crystal Palace’s Barton after 2-1 loss to London City Lionesses

By Football Reporter

Crystal Palace midfielder Kirsty Barton was realistic when commentating on her side’s 2-1 derby defeat to London City Lionesses, on Sunday

The Eagles were 1-0 up before succumbing to two first half goals

Barton said: “It was one of those days where there’s no excuses. From the off we weren’t on the pace and were two steps off where we needed to be.

“Opportunities like that (Millie Farrow at the end), especially that late on in the game, are crucial and we do need to be finishing those. It makes a difference in terms of a point on the board.

“We were too deep, we weren’t pressing tight enough and getting there quick enough as units. Scoring that early on in the game we should have used that, like last week, as momentum, but we then sat off.

“The important thing about Monday is to analyse the game and correct our wrongs. It’s really important to identify what we did wrong because obviously you learn from those things.

“We’re in massive contention this year. We’ve made some brilliant signings over the summer and we’re moving in the right direction. It’s important we go into training positive and go and get the three points next week.”
