So here we are again, on the eve of another season that will no doubt be full of intrigue, thrills and controversy. With seven London teams in the Premier League, London is stocked with representation among the elite. We then have three clubs in the Championship, two in League One and two in League Two, including newcomers Bromley. It won't be dull.
Here we give our pre-season predictions - safe in the knowledge that plenty of those forecasts will prove wildly inaccurate even before autumn has properly kicked in. See if you agree.
Key to writers: YT: Yann Tear PL: Paul Lagan CS: Charlie Stong DE: Dan Evans
AFC Wimbledon: Some shrewd summer signings could deliver play-offs despite small budget and loss of Al-Hamadi
YT: 6th
Jacko has had time to sort out what's needed. His time is now
PL: 3rd
A quiet couple of years - now time to make a move
CS: 6th
Another step forward for Jackson but squad missing the quality to guarantee a play-off spot.
DE: 8th
Arsenal: Superbly consistent last season, but still with the behemoth Man City blocking out the sunlight.
YT: 2nd
The Arteta bubble will burst this term. There will be trouble at mill, I fear
PL: 6th
How much do City want another one? Their squad is also ageing. But Gunners need a striker. Badly.
CS: 2nd (A hopeful 1st if they can sign a really top striker)
Team and manager only getting better with age. Will learn from mistakes of previous two seasons to take the title.
DE: 1st
Brentford: Struggled badly at times last season. Will the direction of travel revert to the default of previous years?
YT: 16th
Bees look great of the pitch and behind the scenes, but I fear on the pitch it will be a struggle
PL: 18th
This could be the year they struggle after a great run in the Premier League. Survival. Just
CS: 17th
Will be better than last term if injury troubles are avoided but the Premier League is only getting stronger and Bees sometimes look like they are standing still.
DE: 16th
Bromley: Into the unknown. What a ride it should be in the South Londoners' first venture into the EFL.
YT: 15th
Just stay in the league, boys
PL: 17th
Not much difference in quality between League 2 and top of non-league. First season bounce.
CS: 6th
Newly-promoted sides often fare well in League Two. Bromley's physicality should mean they are right at home
DE: 12th
Charlton: Could this be the year the Addicks finally turn their fortunes around under Nathan Jones?
YT: 3rd
Time, money and energy spent are all pointing to one way, a promotion out of the dreaded division
PL: 1st
The time is now for Charlton. Season ticket sales are up, confidence is high.
CS: 2nd
Top head coach and a great summer recruitment drive but there are some big beasts in the third tier this term.
DE: 5th
Chelsea: Bad pre-season and another summer where scattergun approach looks likely to test Maresca from the word go.
YT: 6th
Shades of AVB and Sarri are evident so far in pre-season. Will Pep-si Lite see it through?
PL:7th
Good end to last season but a bit of a damp squib since. Villa's European adventure could help them, but still miss out on CL.
CS: 5th
Another mess of a season where they keep in touch with the top sides by throwing enough money at an already bloated squad.
DE: 7th
Crystal Palace: The loss of Olise and possibly Guehi will have robbed the Eagles of fantastic momentum generated last term.
YT: 11th
Lovely home kit by all accounts, so they might be visually okay on the pitch
PL: 12th
Yeah, nice shirt.
CS: 12th is about right though
Brilliant manager who can help them adjust to key departures. Could have been on to something really special if Olise had somehow remained
DE: 9th
Fulham: Marco Silva remains the reassuring presence. Hard to see past mid-table solidity.
YT: 12th
The words 'same old, same old' usually mean a negative thing. But for Fulham it means continued Premier League status and the riches that come from it.
PL:14th
Smith-Rowe has found his level, and if he stays fit could propel the Whites up the table slightly
CS: 11th
Continue to lose players in key positions without securing obvious replacements but Silva has shown himself capable of adjusting to adversity and Smith-Rowe should be a fun signing if he can stay fit
DE: 15th
Leyton Orient: Stability and optimism at Brisbane Road. Can build on solid campaign by challenging for top six.
YT: 8th
LIke many of my old school reports said: 'Must do better.' That applies to the O's too
PL:9th
Promise last year, but O's so often have one good year then one bad.
CS: 12th
Hard to follow up last season's top-half finish in a division with so many wealthier opponents. A season of stability should not be seen as a negative
DE: 15th
Millwall: The spirit of cussed togetherness under Neil Harris promises more punching above their weight for the Lions.
YT:9th
New vigour about the place - play-offs assured
PL: 4th
Harris can lead them to good things again. Play-offs.
CS: 6th
Experimented with something more adventurous last season and it nearly proved costly. Harris has a group of players suited to his style and it will cause plenty of opponents problems
DE:10th
QPR: No reason for Rangers to fear a return to the mess they were in before Cifuentes' arrival. Greater organisation now.
YT: 8th
It's going to turn out fine for the Hoops
PL: 3rd
I have a good feeling for the Hoops this year - it's about time
CS: 4th
Cifuentes will have them organised enough to avoid a third-straight relegation scrap but Rangers need more in attack if they are to really push on
DE:13th
Tottenham: Always flattering to deceive. A good man at the helm, but does he have the personnel to win a trophy?
YT: 5th
Big Ange will get it right - big nights ahead for the north Londoners
PL:2nd
Unless Postecoglu changes his attitude to defending - which is unlikely, they will still fall short.
CS: 6th
Another step forward for Postecoglou as players and club continue to adjust to his way of operating
DE: 4th
Watford: Can't be much worse than last season for the Hornets, who ended 15th. Can they start challenging again?
YT: 14th
Better than mid-table, Hornets fans will be pleased
PL:6rd
Too soon to turn round last season's position, for me.
CS: 15th
Squad has been weakened over the summer and fans are unhappy with absent owners. Looks a tough first job for rookie boss Cleverley
DE: 21st
West Ham: Life after Moyesy may be more fun but less secure. May be a sobering campaign after Euro euphorias.
YT: 13th
Get out the jellied eels - it's party time.
PL: 8th
A struggle this year after Moyes - be careful what you wish for, Hammers.
CS: 14th
Will surely be more expansive following the change of manager and that should bring the best out of the likes of Kudus and Paqueta. May be times where they miss the stability of Moyes though
DE: 11th
