Exclusive Interview by Alessandro Schiavone with Adam Wharton after Crystal Palace's 2-1 defeat at Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Sunday.
How much does this defeat at Everton hurt?
"Yeah, it's frustrating. I think, you know, we could have got further ahead in the game if we took our chances better. This is football and obviously the Premier League is very difficult [and] if you don't take chances you know you can punished. And Everton have done that. We got a bit complacent and then they sort of got the momentum. So yeah it's frustrating. But we're just going into the next games after the international break to try and win them. That's what we always do."
The last time you lost was in April... do you still have the coping mechanism to bounce back?
"I'm sure we do. We got a good group of lads, a good mentality. We never take any game for granted. So after the international break we will go again and in the next game try and win. That's what we do in every single game. I am sure we're gonna bounce back and you know.... you're not gonna win every single game. It was bound to come to an end."
You were on an unprecedented high as a squad... an unbeaten run stretching nearly six months, two trophies, European football... how are you gonna respond to this painful setback?
"Same as in every single game. We've felt down when we've drawn games in this run when we should have won them. We lost before, in April, we had two big defeats before this unbeaten run. We know how to bounce back and I am sure we will do so. The gaffer knows how to sort of get us going for the games. And we know how to step up, we've have a good mentality within the group. I am sure we will be fine."
Was it better for it to happen now rather than later down the line? As it may take off some pressure for the rest of the campaign...
"I don't think it really matters too much. People sort of talk about it obviously that it might be better...
But that's people talking and we can just sort of get on with it. But like I said, every game is the same for us and we'll be back after the internationals."
How are you getting on with European commitments and Thursday-Sunday football?
"Obviously it's a change for us, there's a lot of midweek games this season but we have plenty of players who are ready to come off the bench. It's a good challenge for us to try and do as well in four competitions as possible and see how it goes throughout the season."
