Barnet's crushing 4-0 win against an ailing Bristol Rovers was a result that had been coming, according to boss Dean Brennan - who believes his side are playing as well as anyone in League Two.
The Bees' bid to get involved in the promotion picture in their first season back in the Football League appeared to have stalled with a run of five draws and a defeat in the last six games, but Brennan believes the performances have warranted more and that the best may still be to come.
Goals from Adam Senior and Nnamdi Ofoborh in the first half were the least they deserved for a dominant display, which was reflected more accurately at the end with further goals from Mark Shelton (atoning for a penalty miss at Harrogate by netting from the spot this time) and sub Callum Stead.
"We've worked a lot on our finishing," Brennan said. "Our intensity has been good in all of the games apart from the first three games - which we just write off. Our last 16 games I think we've been as good as anybody in the division.
"We've been threatening to absolutely murder a team for a long time. We were brilliant here against MK Dons [a draw] and against Notts County [a 1-0 loss], just sloppy in front of goal. Our level of performance is strong and to have the bench we had today tells you where the squad is at.
"Everyone can look at the results from the outside, but I know the performance levels have been really high and if we keep those standards, we'll win more matches than we lose. There's been no negativity."
Brennan continued: "We're hoping we can step on again. We have to keep playing the way we've been playing. Confidence has never been out of the camp, from my point of view, and we'll just keep going. We've got good young lads. They're prepared to stick their chests out and prepared to be brave.
"The result itself suggests it was out best performance of the season but I don't think it was. We were better here against MK and at Harrogate last week - that's been our level of performance for the last 15-16 games.
"We've 28 points from 19 games which is not exactly where we want to be but we're building blocks here and some of the lads are cutting their teeth at this level. But I think the effort of the players and the endeavour and quality they showed individually as well as collectively was unbelievable."
He did not get on the scoresheet but at the forefront of a vibrant performance was the dynamic Ryan Glover, who came close to scoring on a couple of occasions and set up the all-important opening goal.
"Ryan hits the figures he needs to hit and is capable of hitting and I think he's got a bright future in the game," said his boss. "He's a player that we believe in. He's doing great for us this year, he's got a lot of pace, he's dynamic, the supporters love hi and he gets them on the edge of their seat.
"He's a dribbler and he set up the first goal with a great cross and his fitness levels are all down to himself, so he should be proud of himself."
