Cesar Azpilicutea is looking to December 8 as the day Chelsea could top the Premier League

That’s the day of destiny when the Blues face league leaders Manchester City at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues beat South-London rivals Crystal Palace 3-1 on Sunday, which maintains their unbeaten league status and leaves them two points off top spot.

He said: “It’s in our hands. Obviously if we don’t drop points, we have the chance to do it.

“We know that to get to that chance, you have to get the three points like we did against Palace.

“We cannot drop points, we need to work hard, keep improving. Let’s see on that day, if we have the chance to do it.”

Chelsea face Belarussian side BATE Borisov in the Europa Cup on Thursday before returning to league action on Sunday, at the Bridge against Everton.

Azpilicueta knows that they won’t play well all the time, but they still need to gain maximum points: “We are happy with our results,” he said.

“We know that still we can do better. The league is very tough - you have to fight for every game. We want to be at the top of the table, so we have to go game by game. We know that it’s going to be difficult, but we know how to win the Premier League, and we will try.”

Two of Chelsea’s goals came from under performing Alvaro Morata. But Azpilicueta is very supportive of his fellow countryman: “Obviously the goals help a lot,” he said.

“Goals gives him more confidence. He has been playing well, finding opportunities. Sometimes the ball does not go in. But I’m happy with his work, with his progress, we know that last season was a tough one for him, but he is a very important player for us.”

Romana Bachmann scored twice as Chelsea FC Women won 2-0 at West Ham United on Sunday in the WSL1. The Blues are fourth, eight points behind leaders Arsenal.
