Chelsea’s Conte happy with 1-0 win

Chelsea head coach Antonio Conte appeared satisfied with his team’s 1-0 over Southampton at Stamford Bridge on Saturday and feels his team is not getting the creditbtheir recent form deserves.

A good win, a good job from all my players,’ he said.

‘he said after the game in which Marcos Alonso scored the only goal, a fierce free-kick , on the stroke of half-time: “I’m happy because my players played the game with great concentration. We deserved to win.

“When the score is only 1-0, despite creating many chances to score the second goal, for sure you don’t relax. But I saw the right attention and commitment from my players so I am happy.

“We finished with a clean sheet which is important for our goalkeeper and the whole team.

“This season we have created many chances but we must be more accurate with our finishing. When you score more than one goal, you can be more relaxed, me as well!'

“In the last 10 games we won eight games, drew against Liverpool away, and lost one game against West Ham. If someone asks me in the next 10 games if I am ready to sign for these results, I am ready! Some people are forgetting this run because there is a team that is winning every game.

“At the same time, you have to consider other teams are trying to do their best. My players in the last 10 games did a good job.’

A convienent yellow card for Alonso means he is suspended for the midweek Carabao Cup match against Bournemouth.

Conte’s view, is perhaps not shared by anyone else: “I prefer to have all my players available. Now there is a problem, also because Davide Zappacosta is recovering from a bad flu. It can happen. We must be ready to overcome this difficulty.”
