Aaron Hickey revealed that Igor Thiago didn’t get a pat on the back from his Brentford teammates during his goalless start to the season

.

That is because the Samba juggernaut’s innate positivity didn’t require any external intervention during a difficult spell.

The former Club Brugge hitman had gone seven Premier League games without a goal either side of an underwhelming World Cup with Brazil.

And after his tap-in goal in Brentford’s 3-0 mauling of west London rivals Chelsea, Thiago was all smiles as he affectionately greeted reporters in the mixed zone.

But he may have been in high spirits even without adding to the scoreboard. Because that's just how he is.

Scotland international Hickey exclusively told Capital Football: “We don’t need to actually tell him anything.

“He’s probably one of the most positive guys I’ve ever met.

“He’s very driven, so we just let him do his thing.

“And we know once he gets his first goal he’ll end up scoring more.”

After three consecutive draws, Brentford stepped up their attacking efforts and put three unanswered goals past Emiliano Martinez and his jittery Blues backline.

Hickey added: “Obviously it’s a good feeling, it was a good win for us before going away for the break.

“We just take it game by game.

“The last three games were difficult against Leeds, Bournemouth and Sunderland.

“We knew today before heading into the international break that we needed to win.”

And with Thiago back on track, there’s certainly even more cause for optimism going forward.
