Loftus-Cheek: Pressure is not on us to beat Belgium, but we want to
Ruben Loftus-Cheek was immense for England as they thrashed Panama 6-1 this afternoon to top the group s they head into a decider against Belgium on Thursday.
The 22-year-old Chelsea midfielder said: “I’m really happy with the performance, a 6-1 win in World Cup is fantastic.
“We will continue to do well, prepare as before in terms of training and food, We want to win against Belgium on Thursday.
“The pressure is not on to win, but we want to.
The match will be good to watch for the fans, but also ourselves.
“Harry Kane is a young captain and so vocal. We are very happy for him. John Stones (who scored twice) is a threat from set-pieces - he is buzzing.
“We have worked on set pieces a lot. They can be big factors in games.”
Gareth Southgate said: “I didn’t particularly like the performance. I did not like the start or the end when we conceded the goal.
“But we played well for 35 minutes.
“We want to be in control of the group. There’s is opportunity for players who haven’t played. But we want to win matches. It’s a nice decision to have.
“I thought Ruben’s yellow card was harsh.”
