Top attitude the key to our continuing success - along with Toney's prolific form, says Bees boss

Thomas Frank said his team's attitude was the cornerstone of their latest triumph as they came from behind to lift themselves up to second place in the Championship.

The concession of a third-minute goal did not faze them in the slightest and strikes from man-of-the-match Sergi Canos, Ivan Toney (who else?) and Saman Ghoddos secured a 3-1 victory at Brentford Community Stadium,.

"We know on our day we play decent football but we now have the foundations of every top team - a top attitude," said Brentford's delighted boss.

"We are confident but humble because we know there is a big task ahead of us.

"We were missing key players but Sergi Canos, Tariqe Fosu and Saman Ghoddos all stepped up.

"We run, fight and play for each other and that leads to a good performance every single time. Then it's down to the fine margins.

"We are always together and we have desire and that's important in a league that is relentless."

Frank was once again in a position to eulogise over the contribution of Toney, who now has 20 goals for the campaign. He has risen to the challenge of matching the feats in previous seasons of Neal Maupay and Ollie Watkins and once again the Bees have found a perfect replacement number nine.

“Ivan is a special, special player,” said Frank.

“That goal he scored today – if you just pick out one of Ivan’s goals this season, that one is him.

“He showed top positioning in the box, which is what we work with him on, but also he read cleverly where to go, off the shoulder of the second central defender and showed perfect timing to get in front of him.

“But it is also his work ethic which is so important. Defending from the number nine backwards is key for me and there is so much more about him that he brings to the squad.”

Frank added of his team's display: "In the first 25 minutes of the second half, we looked absolutely amazing, scored two fantastic goals and were totally in control."

Josh Dasilva missed the match with a minor hip injury, but Frank hopes to have him back for Saturday's visit to Middlesbrough. Bryan Mbeumo is also expected to return.
