Thomas Frank full of pride after 'almost complete' performance humbles Chelsea at the Bridge

Thomas Frank hailed his team for a ‘near perfect’ performance which produced a stunning 4-1 victory over World Champions Chelsea.

The Brentford boss was full of pride after a thrilling display as goals from Vitaly Janelt (with two) Christian Eriksen and Yoane Wissa crushed their Stamford Bridge hosts.

“In football you work so hard, so many hours and a lot of times you think you maybe don’t get what you deserve because you can’t control the randomness of football. Today everything clicked,” Thomas said.

“Today being part of a club and team of fantastic players and staff and winning here at Stamford Bridge against the European and World champions – and in a well-deserved almost-complete performance - is a little bit unreal.

“Normally they defend unbelievably well but today we managed to create these opportunities and also what I liked was that we also played a very good first half. We started very well. We were brave. We wanted to press high and it’s a big moment for the club.”

Frank had plenty to delight him from every one of his players, but of course much of the focus will be on two-goal Janelt and on Eriksen, who scored his first goal for the club having also netted twice for Denmark last week as he returns to action following his on-pitch heart-attack at last year’s Euros.

“I’m pleased that he’s saved some goals for Brentford,” Frank joked. “He’s a top player It’s an ongoing fairytale and I’m very pleased for that, of course.

“What he brings to the team is his ability on the ball, his calmness. He can always give it to Christian [Norgaard] to find a solution. Plus, he will always provide goals or assists. He got a very important assist against Burnley and now a very important goal.

“What he gives to the team with his personality is his presence on the ball.”

He added: “I’m very pleased and proud of what we could do today and coming back from losing an incredible goal to Antonio Rudiger.

“It was a deserved win and an almost complete performance. You very rarely experience that in a season, so that’s a big moment for me.”

Frank said of Janelt: “Vitaly was top today. It's been a really good signing for us last two years. He came in from the Bundesliga and stepped in straight into the Championship and in the Premier League just continued his good form.

“I think he's got that rare ability to be a really good pressing player. Very good defensively. Decent passer and got that feeling of arriving in the box from deep and scoring goals.

“When we signed him, for me he was a six that could play at eight and we know that he's got that ability to go box to box.”
