Silva admits 'disappointment' at not quite capping great display against Liverpool with a win

Marco Silva refused to get over-excited about his team's opening day draw with Liverpool - saying his team deserved all three points.

The Fulham boss was delighted with his team's performance, though, with a double from the irrepressible Aleksander Mitrovic almost unseating last season's Premier League runners-up.

"If you ask me, I think our players deserved more from the game than just one point," the Portuguese boss said.

"In the second half, Liverpool had more control of the game, but I think our organisation and our great, great first half was almost perfect. The intensity we played first half was really good and I have to congratulate our players.

"We controlled really well the big moments and they are aggressive without the ball, in the right way of course, and I think we matched them from the first minute until the last minute until the last minute of the match.

"I think it was a good performance from ourselves and we have to go again."

Silva added that he has never doubted Mitrovic could emulate last season's brilliance in the top division.: "We Just have to keep playing our way and keep providing for him the chances," he said.

"If you provide good chances for him in the box, he will score. But he is not just a good goalscorer for us - he did an unbelievable job this afternoon without the ball - the way he pressed and help the midfielders as well as pressing the back line.

"He deserved the two goals for the performance that he did and I'm really pleased for him."

He added: "It's important to start the season with a good result. Three points would be much better, but we had the right commitment, attitude and desire and we showed all these three things."
