Midweek roundup: Rosenior on Chelsea watch at Craven Cottage sees new charges seen off by magic Wilson

With five midweek Premier League games taking place in the capital this week, it has felt as though something is going on just about everywhere. And ahead of Wednesday's three games at Brentford, Fulham and Crystal Palace there was the little matter of the latest calamity at the London Stadium for West Ham United where distress signals are peppering the sky.
You can read about that 2-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest for the ailing Irons and the implications for an under-siege Nuno Espirito Santo in a report HERE. Tomorrow, we will be covering another huge game at the Emirates as Arsenal take on Liverpool - with the Gunners bidding to keep ahead of the chasers at the top of the table.
But most of the focus on Wednesday was at Craven Cottage for the latest west London derby - given added spice by the fact Chelsea were being watched from the stands by former Fulham player Liam Rosenior, who has been confirmed as the new boss at Stamford Bridge following Enzo Maresca's exit last week.
What he saw was a continuation of the ill-discipline that has dogged the Blues this season as Marc Cucurella became the seventh Chelsea player to be red carded this season. The Spaniard was given a straight red for hauling down Harry Wilson just outside the box as the Welshman chased a punt upfield from Bernd Leno.
Wilson was destined to make 10-man Chelsea pay, bagging the 81st minute winner after Liam Delap had cancelled out a superb Raul Jimenez header. Wilson had a goal chalked out for offside but was not to be denied and the win makes it six without defeat. The Cottage was left in raptures after the win against their greatest foe.
Plenty of food for thought then for Rosenior. The 41-year-old made around 80 appearances for the Whites between 2003-07 but will not have many from his old club wishing him well now he has taken up residence with the bitter blue rivals from just down the road.
Plucked from Strasbourg - another club owned by Chelsea owners BlueCo - Rosenior is expected to take training at Cobham for the first time tomorrow (Thursday) and his first game in charge will be at Charlton in the FA Cup on Saturday night.
Elsewhere, it was a glorious night for Brentford, who thrashed Sunderland 3-0. Igor Thiago scored twice to take his tally for the season to 16 - the most ever by a Brazilian in a Premier League season. Yehor Yermoliuk added the third to ensure their unbeaten run extends to six.
On the South Coast, Spurs became the first team to lose to Bournemouth in 12 games as the Cherries completed the double in dramatic style. Antoine Semenyo hit a late winner in what is expected to be his last game for them before he moves to Man City.
It turned out to me a sombre day all round for the club, with the death of club legend Martin Chivers announced earlier in the day. The teams wore black armbands to mark the passing of the 80-year-olds, who ranked so highly in the club's goalscoring annals.
Mathias Tel gave Thomas Frank's men a fifth minute lead but the Cherries led at the interval through Evanilson and Junior Kroupi. Spurs had little luck, with Lucas Bergvall going off injured - Mo Kudus also picking up a knock at the weekend - and sub Richarlison hit a post.
Even so, it looked as if a spectacular bicycle kick from Joao Palhinha had saved the day until Semenyo strick in the fifth minute of injury time.
There was far less drama at Selhurst Park, where the Eagles held high-flying Aston Villa to a 0-0 draw. Given their injury woes, this was a decent outcome for Palace, but it's now six without a win in the league and no home win since November 1.
