Canadian striker Promise David was quizzed on reports he turned down West Ham due to an apparent unwillingness to be involved in a relegation scrap.

The Hammers turned to Lazio's Argentine striker Taty Castellanos when it filtered out the Union Saint-Gilloise hitman wanted to see out the season in Brussels.

But David, who has bagged 14 goals across all competitions this term including two in the Champions League, was desperate to set the record straight.

Tight-lipped and oozing confidence, he gave off Cole Palmer vibes during the exclusive interview with Capital Football.

When asked if those rumours were true, he first shrugged his shoulders before adding: "I don't even have a phone number!"

When it was put to him that it may have all been 'made up' he didn't budge, giving us the same reply: "I don't even have a phone number!"

He then went public with his love of another London side. David carries a torch for West Ham's bitter rivals Chelsea.

He said: "[Growing up] I kinda liked me and playing for me. I am selfish. But I did like Drogba and Lukaku... Chelsea strikers! I watched Chelsea growing up."

David, 24, scored the only goal of the game as pacesetters Union Saint-Gilloise saw off Malines at the weekend.

He collected a telgraphed pass into space from Kamiel van de Perre before cutting inside two defenders in the box and finishing with aplomb.

That silky finish was indicative of what he's all about as his 38 goals in 69 appearances for the reigning Belgian champions reflect. The Hammers would kill for a striker with those stats.

He's single-minded, opportunistic and... 'selfish' a word he used in our interview to describe himself.

Yet West Ham, who are in dire need of unity and team spirit if they are to erase a five-point gap and catch Nottingham Forest, the last thing they want is a prima donna.

Even if they are born finishers like David.
