Former Fulham defender Marlon Fossey has spoken exclusively to Capital Football to recall his days at the club, a potential return to England and the odds of ex-teammate and friend Harvey Elliott sealing a return to Craven Cottage... and the fans' potential uproar.

His memories of Fulham: "I had a competitive game in the Carabao Cup. It could have been a lot more but I learned a lot at the club. I grew as a man and was around a lot of first-team players that helped me add parts to my game. Ultimately not playing there led me to here (Standard Liège). I am not angry."

On Fulham going from yo-yo club in his early days at the club to now being a force to be reckoned with when it comes to competing for a top 10 finish: "There's good guys working behind the scenes, a good coaching staff and they've got players there that know the club like Tom Cairney who make sure that the standards are high in training all the time. It's a good club, a good family club. The ball is rolling now and I hope it keeps rolling!."

On whether going back to England one day is his dream: "I wouldn't say 'dream' but football is very unpredictable sometimes. I could end up there, I could not. Right now I am happy where I am and that's the most important thing."

On why he's so popular at Standard Liège with hundreds of fans regularly lining up to get their photos taken with him after home games outside the ground: "It's a beautiful club and I am a passionate, passionate player (smile)."

His curly hair must surely help win so many hearts (laughters): "Maybe, you said that, not me! (laughters). But yeah it's a passionate fanbase, I am passionate. It makes sense right now."

If he can see himself long-term at Stade Maurice Dufrasne: "Yeah, for now you know? I try not to think too long-term. Life is short and I try to focus on the next day,  the time I have ahead of me. We've got a beautiful game ahead next week against Club Bruges so I'm looking forward to that."

There's talk about Harvey Elliott rejoining Fulham. Can he see that happening?

"Maybe yes, maybe no. I know they've signed Oscar Bobb recently so that makes it less likely. I played with Harvry and he's got a lot of quality. If he does go there he'll add a lot to them for sure."

He would have some bridges to build after leaving at such a young age. But the fickle nature of the game dictates that very often a goal or two will do to get fans on your side again. And Fossey backed up the theory: "Exactly, like you said. I think there are always fans that don't like a player whatever he does. He was a 16-year old joining Liverpool, one of the biggest clubs in the world. When you step back I don't think you can blame it too much. We will see what happens."

Fossey believes it's touch and go. Asked whether he truly believed in a Harvey Elliott return he said: "I would say no. I mean the transfer window is closing now. I'll lean towards no but we will see."
