West Ham may have had the new Gonzalo Higuain and Gabriel Batistuta without knowing it.
That's the view of Argentina star Matias Soulé who has compared new AS Roma teammate Evan Ferguson to arguably his country's greatest-ever centre-forwards.
The striker failed to score a single goal in his four-month stint with the Hammers who subsequently refused to make his loan deal from Brighton & Hove Albion permanent.
Yesterday he marked his maiden Roma game with the winning goal at 2.Bundesliga club Kaiserslautern, catching goalkeeper Julian Krahl in possession before rolling home.
And Lionel Messi's Argentina teammate Soulé has been unequivocal about the Irishman's potential.
He said: "He's had a great impact.
"He's a nice lad, I am trying to communicate with him in English but I am struggling in that language (smiles).
"He's skilled, technically gifted and potent.
"He's younger than me but physically a beast.
"I hope he'll do his best for Roma. He reminds me of Batistuta and Higuain."
