Crystal Palace boss on 4-0 defeat to Chelsea: All four goals were individual errors

By Paul Lagan

Roy Hodgson was furious at his players after they slumped to a embarrassing 4-0 defeat against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

The South Londoners seems to have the game comfortably under control in the opening 45 minutes, reducing Chelsea to a singer half-pied shot by Timo Werner which Vincent Guaita easily held.

but it all fell apart for the Eagles five minutes into the second half when Calum Hudson-Odoi took advantage of poor defending to allow Ben Chilwell to smash home.

There followed an unchallenged header for Kurt Zouma to double the score, before two silly challenges in the penalty area allowed Jorginho to tuck home a brace of spot kicks to leave them empty-handed.

Hodgson said: “We conceded four but all were from individual errors at the back.

“It’s hard to come back (from that) unless you have a clear attacking threat, but we didn’t have that compare for that.

Chelsea pressured well, but we gifted them the first goal. Then we gifted them the two penalties.

“They were solid defensively. It’s a scoreline, we can only blame ourselves for.

“You can’t wipe things away, there were a few poor performances out there .

“We must take it on the chin and not allow it to affect our confidence.”
