Arsenal: Lille's Edon Zhegrova, one of Kosovo's most famous kids alongside Dua Lipa and Rita Ora, can still go down as the one who got away..

Once on Arsenal's wishlist, Edon Zhegrova's did everything but add to his tally of 11 goals in Lille's 2-1 win over Metz yesterday. He worked the hosts' defenders hard, left them for dead with his shoulder drops and changes of pace.

Yet the left-footed right winger, who hails from the same country as Dua Lipa and Rita Ora, is unlikely to be eager to replay any of his three efforts on goal. First, he had rammed a shot over after efficiently selling Matthieu Udol cheap. He then didn't make the most of Jonathan David's lay-off by drilling wide just outside of the box. And it didn't go much better when he curled over Yusuf Yazici's stupendous back-heel flick. Had any of them hit the target, or been directed towards erratic keeper Alexandre Oukidja's near-post, he may have had north of six Ligue 1 goals today. The "Kosovan Messi" has made himself a wanted man after a fantastic season at Stade Pierre Mauroy. Whether it's his confidence on the ball, bravado and technical bravura he can make a difference at a variety of clubs in any of Europe's top-four leagues. And it's not difficult to see why the Gunners looked at him last summer as his dazzling technique and creative intelligence would break down most deep defensive blocks. And with Juve now eyeing up a move for the 25-year-old, Lille may lose another of their most prized assets. Yet for all his talent he may have ended up a benchwarmer at the Emirates as Bukayo Saka is in the club's plans the undisputed owner of that left-wing position for years to come. But don't jump the gun because if Zhegrova works on his finishing touch he may well end up joining the famous list of superstars who 'could have joined Arsenal' to quote Arsène Wenger. But didn't.
