Hat-trick hero Tammy Abraham: I'm living the Chelsea dream

Hat-trick hero Tammy Abraham was all smiles, with his match ball tucked up under his arms as he spoke about his three-goal haul against Wolves on Saturday.

The Blues won 5-2 at Molineux with the other two goals from Fikayo Tomori and Mason Mount. Abraham, 21 said: “It has been a good day at the office for me and the boys. Coming here is never easy. We played well thankfully, I scored three and we got the three points.”

The Camberwell-born hit-man was unaware that he was the youngest Chelsea player to net a hat-trick.

“Not, I’ve not heard that. I haven’t been on my phone too much yet. I am delighted to score one or two for Chelsea.

“That’s an incredible feeling but to score three is indescribable.

“I am always a player who believed in myself. I had a rough patch after what I went through against Liverpool.

“I always believed I would come through it and get on top of it. The boys have always been there to support me and have created the chances. It is just about me being in the right place at the right time.”

He is also top Premier League scorer.

“I am delighted to be scoring goals for a team I have grown up loving and have always wanted to play for. It is just an amazing feeling. “I just have to keep this going and we hopefully keep getting wins as well. That’s the most important thing. “We have scored 11 goals and it has all been from academy English players. We are all delighted. The manager believes in us. We just have to keep taking our chances.”

Chelsea’s opener was another academy graduate Tomori, and Abraham said of his team-mate.

“I was even more happy for him [than I was for myself]. He has been given the chance and opportunity by a great manager.

“Not only has he been good in his defensive work, he has scored a worldy. It surprised everyone in the stadium.”

Chelsea face Valencia in the Champions League on Tuesday and Abraham wants more goals.

“That’s the next target. Definitely,” he said.

“We move on from this game. We have got the points. We have another thing to focus on and that’s Tuesday in the Champions League.

“It hasn’t kicked in yet. I have grown up watching big stars playing in the Champions League. To play in it myself would obviously be a dream. Players like Frank Lampard. Didier Drogba and John Terry – great legends. They have been there and done it. I would like to follow the same path.”

Abraham while having an full England cap can still play for Nigeria. “Yes, I have heard the talks,” he said.

“I have not really been focused on that yet. I think when the time comes, the times comes. It is about focusing on Chelsea and hopefully scoring goals and getting victories.

“We never know. You can never say never, whatever comes first really. I just have to keep full focus on Chelsea.

“I never regret anything. I has been a great experience to go out on loan. Learning men’s football at 17 going on 18, to start at that age gave me that experience and turned me into a man really quickly.

“Hopefully, that’s just the beginning of a great career at Chelsea. Keep it running.

“I have gone from being at Chelsea academy. You are winning lots of games, lots of tournaments and then going through to Swansea who are a different style. Not dominating games, possessions or scoring a lot of goals.

“It was a different learning experience for me. I learned a lot and added it to my game.

“It is just about being in the right place at the right time. I play with such great players and I know they can create chances. So for me, it is just getting in those places.”

Abraham could have moved to Wolves in January but stayed at Aston Villa - did he have any regrets?

“Obviously a team like Wolves are a great side and I was always honoured to hear that news,” he said.

“My dream was to always be at Chelsea, play at Chelsea and right now I am living the dream.”
