Ndombele out but Son set for Spurs return against Newcastle

Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

Spurs record signing Tanguy Ndombele will miss this afternoon’s Premier League game against Newcastle with a minor thigh injury.

The Frenchman, who Tottenham signed for around £60m from Lyon this summer, has made an impressive start to his career in England.

He scored a fine goal against Aston Villa in the Londoners’ 3-1 opening day win, and followed that up by creating Erik Lamela’s goal in the 2-2 draw at the Etihad last week against champions Manchester City.

Also missing out for Spurs will be Juan Foyth and Ryan Sessegnon with hamstring problems, while Son Heung-min is back following a three-game ban and Dele Alli has returned to training, again after a hamstring injury.

Boss Mauricio Pochettino said: “Sonny is going to be available and that’s another option. The manager always wants players available and to have the options to take decisions.

“We are happy, we are positive and we hope to have a good game on Sunday. The three points are so important.

“(Son) has trained hard to keep fit and try to improve in certain areas. It’s good because he’s increased the competition in the squad.

“We have lot of offensive players now and that’s very god news for the team.”

A win against Steve Bruce’s struggling Magpies, who have lost their first two games this season, could lift Spurs into second place in the Premier League after three games, depending on Manchester City’s result at Bournemouth in the day’s earlier kick-off.
