Rangers lose at home to Swansea 1-3 to slip to 19th in Championship

QPR suffered at home tonight as they went down 3-1 to Swansea City.

Swansea opened the scoring in the 29th minute through Bersant Celina. The Kosovan converted from outside the box from a wonderfully weighted Andrew Ayew pass after the Swans had caught QPR on the break.

Jordan Hugill, currently on loan from West Ham, equalised with a header for QPR in the 66th minute after substitute Ilias Chair found him in the box.

Two minutes later and Jordon Garrick drew a foul in the QPR box, Borja Tomas calmly placed the ball past Joe Lumley with a right footed shot.

Swansea City finished any hope Queens Park Rangers had of mounting a comeback when Sam Surridge converted from an Andre Ayew cross just three minutes on from his introduction.

QPR put the ball in the net in the 91st minute through Hugill once again but the play had already been ruled offside and Hugill was subsequently booked.

QPR were dominant in the early stages of the second half with Chair coming very close to opening the scoring for the R’s, moments before Hugill, a goal line clearance preventing the goal after substitute Marc Pugh found him in space.

QPR remained a threat in attack after Swansea took a 3-1 advantage and still showed signs of getting back into the game against a Swansea side who were clinical with the chances they had.

The Swans were denied the chance to go first by Leeds 1-0 victory at Brentford, a Leeds side who are also undefeated so far this season.

The last time the two sides met QPR beat Swansea 4-0, the Swans biggest loss of the 2018/19 season. Swansea have not lost a match since this matchup.

This evening’s loss means QPR have gone five straight home matches without a win for the first time since 2016. Following the defeat, the R’s slide down to 19th with one win, one draw and two losses so far this season.

QPR will next play at home on Saturday, August 24 as they host Wigan Athletic.
