Scores on the doors: Chelsea players rated after their 1-0 win over Liverpool
Chelsea kept alive their hopes of Champions League qualification with a gritty 1-0 win against Champions League finalists Liverpool - Olivier Giroud's goal enough to divide the sides. Here's how we rated the players.
Thibaut Courtois: 7
Routine near-post save from Roberto Firmino, but also kept out a blistering drive from Sadio Mane which fizzed along the deck from outside the box. Well placed to save twice more from the striker in the first half.
Antonio Rudiger: 7
Had a headed goal ruled out for offside, but it was in his defensive duties where he really excelled, keeping quiet the league’s player of the season, Mo Salah.
Gary Cahill: 6
Calm in face of an early Reds onslaught and kept the backline nicely in sync. A good, disciplined display.
Cesar Azpilicueta: 6
Given the slip by Sadio Mane in one Liverpool raid, but locked down his side of the box well after some early scares.
Cesc Fabregas: 6
Slid a shot narrowly wide of the far post after scampering onto an Azpilicueta pass and kept plugging away, looking to create holes in the Liverpool defence.
N’Golo Konte: 7
Great tracking back to rob Mane of the ball in a breakaway typified his unstinting efforts. Made life difficult for the Reds.
Victor Moses: 7
Some lively bursts down the right and one cut-back from the byline almost presented a goal for Bakayoko and Giroud, who got in each other’s way. His cross set up Giroud’s goal and he pinged another effort just wide. Davide Zappacosta replaced him for the last knockings.
Tiemoue Bakayoko: 6
Flashed a header just wide from a Moses cross but it was in his midfield work where he looked the part for once. Worked hard to clog the spaces Liverpool like to work in.
Marcos Alonso: 6
First game back after suspension and not quite as sharp as he can be. Fired one shot at Karius, and almost buried a left foot volley, but was steady rather than outstanding.
Eden Hazard: 7
Clattered by Milner in the opening stages and a ripped collar provided evidence of efforts made to close him down. Wriggled past three defenders to almost fox Karius at his near post. Willian replaced him for the last five minutes.
Olivier Giroud: 7
Seems to like playing Liverpool. Rose well above Dejan Lovren to head in the winner, following Moses’ deflected cross on 32 minutes. His fifth goal in Chelsea colours was reward for leading the line well.
