Harry Kane double ensures comfortable Spurs see off top-four chasing Foxes

Two Harry Kane goals towards the end of the first half ensured Spurs ended the home campaign on a positive note – while making a serious dent in Leicester’s Champions League ambitions.

The Foxes were chasing the game as early as the sixth minute, when Spurs took the lead with their first serious attack. And although the visitors saw plenty of the ball, they were always vulnerable to the breakaway.

It was the dream scenario for Jose Mourinho, with his side never needing to chase the game and their clinical finishing did the rest.

Kane’s finishing was superb and he was involved in the opener too - curving a beautiful ball down the line to Heung-Min Son with the outside of his boot to set up the attack.

The South Korean then cut inside to fire goalwards, with the ball finding the bottom corner via a deflection off wing-back James Justin.

The Foxes upped their game, and after Wes Morgan’s soaring header had been blocked on the line, Jamie Vardy’s backheeled follow-up met the same fate.

They came even closer when Ayoze Perez got on the end of a fine Harvey Barnes cross to volley powerfully towards the bottom corner – only for Hugo Lloris to save by his left-hand post.

But soon the game was out of their reach.

Son was a whisker away from doubling the lead after latching onto a long ball from Harry Winks and testing Kasper Schmeichel with a dipping volley - the keeper needing to be at his acrobatic best to tip over.

But on 37 minutes, Kane struck with a low left foot shot beyond the keeper after a lightning counter-attack led by Gio Lo Celso and Lucas Moura.

The Foxes had hardly settled into the new reality when Kane struck again after 40 minutes, picking up possession on the left edge of the penalty area after good work from Lucas, and bending an unerring shot across the keeper into the far corner.

The striker now has 33 goals for the season and has been one of the bright spots in an often-troubled campaign.

Half-time sub Demarai Gray cracked a fine free-kick towards the top corner soon after interval for Leicester, but Lloris stretched out a hand to palm over and although the Foxes showed plenty of spirit chasing their lost cause – Kelechi Iheanacho also went close late on - their race was already run.

It looks like they may be joining Spurs in the Europa League next season, unless they can beat Man United in their final fixture.
